Saying ‘I do’: New Year’s Eve Wedding Decor – Choosing a theme

End the party with a sparkler send-off. Kellee Khalil: How To Host A Glamourous New Year's Eve Wedding:

I absolutely love decorating. Home decor, holiday decor, party decor–I love it all. When we decided on our New Year’s Eve date, I knew I was going to have so much fun with the decor. I already think weddings are one of the occasions where it’s totally ok to be a little over the top, and NYE was going to take it to a whole new level.

One of the discussions Mike had early on in the wedding planning process was whether we wanted to go with winter decor or NYE decor. That decision could take us in totally different directions. And we went back and forth on it a lot! I’d come across an item like anter place card holders and want to go winter and then I’d see photos like these and want to go NYE.

There’s so much you can do with a winter theme! A winter wedding can be so glamorous and romantic. Imagine walking into a winter wonderland.

My wedding prob won't be in the winter so "winter wonderland" won't really apply but I think this would be cute with regular green trees anyway:

My preferred look is more the rustic side of winter decor. I remember describing my early ideas for our wedding decor as ‘cabin chic’. I imagined pine cones and furs, welcome hot chocolates, and the coziness of a ski lodge.

Over time, my vision changed (as evidenced by the evolution of my Pinterest board). I decided that because our wedding is on New Year’s Eve, I want to go much more New Year’s glam rather than winter. More gold, more sparkle! I wanted to take full advantage of the opportunities our wedding date is offering us. Full on New Year’s Eve wedding decor.

Ironically, one of the only stipulations the venue has is NO GLITTER. Hahah. I can’t blame them, with the mess that it makes and the way glitter sticks around forever. Hey, our guests would be remembering our wedding for months to come every time they found another sparkle of glitter 😉

I wanted the sequins and the glitter, but I still loved the idea of incorporating some of the more natural winter elements. Eventually we decided to go with winter decor for our ceremony space and NYE decor for our reception space. I just love when I can have it all!

What’s your favourite winter wedding look?

    • I already know I’m going to be one of those brides that gets a little bummed when it’s all over. I love it!

  1. So much beautiful decor! I actually got married on New Year’s Day! We got married at a winery, so the theme was wine country rustic and Christmas-y. I incorporated royal blue into my flowers, cake and bridesmaids dresses to make it have a pretty wintery color pop. It worked out well since I love wine and I love the holiday season! 🙂

    • Royal blue is such a great idea! Love that! And wine country rustic christmas sounds awesome.
New Year eve/day weddings are so cool because then we start our new married lives right on Jan 1st. Something fun about that! 🙂
